Title: Proper Backspacing
Post by: Speedracer7c on April 13, 2004, 07:13:46 AM
What backspacing do I need on a 15x7 inch rim to run a 31X10.50 without sticking out a mile? Thanks Andrew

First, a 31 X 10.50 should probably be on an 8 inch rim.

Second, it's not how far it sticks "out" that's going to be a problem, but how far it sticks "in", without rubbing.  You'll probably be looking at 2-3/4" or 2-1/2" backspacing, to avoid problems.

Well I know its sticking in without rubbing, But the problem is there are real strict laws here about tires sticking out. So thats my main concern is being legal.

That's why there are fender flares.  Solves the "sticking out" problem.  Trail Tough sells flares for the Samurai, that supposedly will fit a Kick - they're just Bushwacker REAR Wrangler flares, trimmed to fit.  I wonder if I can find them for less than $300?

I was going to do the flares heather and nate did on their kick. Seemed to work pretty good and got them for under 100 bucks. I have some bronco rims that i'm going to try to bolt up and see how those look.

i think you have to trim the inside where the hub is to fit.

The older Ford bolt pattern is the same as a kick (5x5.5"), however the Samurai, if I remember correctly, has 5x4.5".

just make the tire the fit the w.o rubbing then figure out the fender flares later..u wont be able to get them under the car all the way w.o hacking the crap out of everything lol so just make em fit then slap some garden molding on it to have it inspected =)

These are off a '79 "Fullsize" Bronco:

I tried them on the Zook a couples weeks ago and they fit just fine. I didn't measure but it looked like 3" of backspacing. He only wants $40.00 for them but one is slightly different and i haven't decided to buy yet.

YEA WHEN TRAIL TOUGH POSTED THAT THEY CAN FIT A 4 DOOR TRACK/KICK WITH LITTLE MODDING, I ASKED FOR THEM TO POST A PICTURE HOLDING THEM UP TO A KICK . A PICTURE IS WORTH A 1000 WORDS  ;D
