Title: transmission noise/vibrating...
Post by: leopoldsami on June 15, 2012, 11:12:38 AM
Ok on my 86 sami I started having trans problems. It makes alot of whining noise during acceleration which i think could be the syncros. But today while im not accelerating the trans vibrates violently and  becomes very loud. it feels like when you are in 4H at a decent speed and let off the gas and coast, but I am not in 4wd. I also had a problem getting back into 2wd after being in 4L for a few mins. I have the transfer case shift fix from rocky so not sure whats going on.

The synchos won't whine, that will be a bearing somewhere or lack of lubrication, the vibration can have several sources, bad UJs, or if the vehicle is lifted or springs are tired, incorrect pinion angle.

well after 3 shops I still dont have the right rear oil seal for the trans. but when i took the drive shaft off the trans i found the bolts were loose. so maybe when i get it back together it will stop

Loose bolts will make a terrible racket. I got my last seal at O'reillys. It was thinner but the shaft and outside was the same.

Probably a bad U-joint or broken T case mount. or trans mount.

.
You are right. The ujoint I just replaced went out. I'm getting a new drive shaft the one I have is damaged so I've gone through 2 ujoints in a month.

Hood in the face huh.  I always wondered what that would be like.  Better to read about it.

:D yeah it defiantly woke me up! If you get hood latches dont go cheap....you might make skid marks on more than just the road.  ::)
