A week at Moab.
Breakfast every morning:
Hash Browns, Bacon, Eggs, Cheese - pre-cooked and packaged in seal-a-meal bags - heated in boiling water - about 2 pounds per day for myself and the Ashes puppy.
Lunch every day:
Big sandwich with about 1/2 to 3/4 inch of ham and hard salami, and chips (also shared with Ashes).
Dinner:
Seal-a-meal bag with:
Monster Calzone (with green Chili's, mmm!) or
Salmon and Brussels Sprouts (with powdered Chipotle peppers and lemon-pepper seasoning).
Beef Burritos, smothered in green chili...
Result:
I gained FIVE POUNDS!!! ::)

And if you were Mike, I'd suggest you get a hair cut and lose those pounds rather quickly!!!! LOL
The frozen bad idea is a great one. I forgot all about those for camping.
However, real 4-wheelers use the heat of their engines to cook their food. haha. :o
-
Damn, that doesent sound near as good as my thin coldcuts and soggy bread for lunch and dinner. :P
Zig
PS Oh yea, poptarts for b-fast
-
At powerfest last year we made fondue for an appetizer. We got made fun of as we were making it but, everybody scarfed it down. 1 guy was licking the pot! Then for dinner I made a marinated pork roast and vegitables. We eat better campin then at home.

Well, if we rent a Condo next year, I can REALLY pull out all the stops. Pork tenderloin baked with green chili strips, and served with mashed potatoes, and green chili gravy, for instance. God, I love to cook!
-
That's it, I'm renting the Condo and you are
staying with me, I'll even help cook, I can cook
on more than an exhaust system ;D

I can see that we'll need a Moab Cooking thread next year! How does fresh baked bread sound? Or 2 inch fillets with a pocket cut in them, filled with Bleu Cheese, wrapped in bacon, and grilled? Spinach salad with hot bacon dressing? oh, breakfast - apple sausage braid (baked in pastry)?
-
Hang on a minute here. I thought you yanks all sat round the campfire eating beans ;D ;D :P :P ;D ;D

Bob:
Considering the fact that you probably dropped 10lbs in sweat on your run at Lion's Back, you really gained 15+lbs :o Next year take two runs at it and you can eat whatever you want!

I like the way you think! For $10, you can run it as many times as you want - I didn't want to hold everybody up, so I stopped at two.
Time to start thinking about desserts!
-
Thats not camping!! IT doesn't even count!

how was lions back?? i sawe a vid of a bronco falling of it once...scary,...
It was terrifying.
It was exhilarating.
It was almost as good as sex (really great sex).
Seeing the pictures again, was almost as good as driving it again.

cool does it cost money to do it?
and does it require a higly modded vehicle or could i do it my stock track/kick(its a mix of two)
It costs $10.00 - you can run it as many times as you like. I WOULD NOT recommend running it WITHOUT the Calmini 4.24:1 Transfer case gears, and lockers front and rear. I don't think it would make it UP with less, and if it did, you would probably die on the trip back down. With that gearing, I did not have to use the brakes at all on the trip down - it was all gearing.

Have you seen the video from a few years back on Lion's Back. This kid is going down in his C-5 Blazer when everything lets loose. He goes down 3/4 of that beast without even slowing down :-[ Scary stuff. I'm bringing my parachute and increasing the old life insurance if I try next year. 8)

What had happen in that bad decent event was that they ran up with the parking brake on to help activate the lsd they had in the rear. Up top, they had a hell of a time turning around, but they kept the rpm's up to get it turned. On the decent, female driving down, she had to push the gas, and hold the brake to manuever it. Then parking brake cable on one side broke, rpm's up, it started to go, her holding the brakes heated them enough that they didn't hold. Then accel cable brakes and she had no control of the rpms. Something gives underneath and rpms stay up. She did all she could do with the loss of brakes, and accelerating down the hill. That was amazing is that they were able to 'almost' walk away from the end result.
As for Lion's Back, I went up in 2001 and that was a blast. I used my 92 Bronco and it was only locked in the rear (ARB front open), 4.56's diffs, 2.71 t-case (stock), old tired 302 w/auto on 35 MTR's. Going up was like a rocket ship blast. All you see is the sky and if you look outward, everything is at a great angle. Tried to hold a soda can and it was almost vertical. My inclinometer was over 30 degrees. Surprisingly, up top, the rock gets much wider and that in itself is misleading. You never know where the 'edge' is as it's always rolling over. Lots of small wells up there and there is actually a large area to do a complete 180.
Going down, just 1st low and let it idle down, feathering brake here there to keep everything......it's like you are trying not to tear the head off the stripped bolt. Just enough to get by, but not enough to snap the head off....
I will definately participate next year in the X.

So is the entrance at the bottom the steepest part of the climb? There seems to be alot of rubber on it (could be from getting the sand off though) :-/

I never saw a wider place - how far do you have to drive? I went about 200 yards from the crest, and it didn't get any wider.
Yes, the first 50 feet or so is definitely the steepest - I'm guessing almost 60 degrees. The rest is more like 45 degrees.
Here's one Lion's Back Crash Link:

On the top, I was going from memory and thought there was one. You were there last week, so hopefully your memory is better than mine. LOL. :D
The photos looks like a XJ that went over to the right into the small revine. The video is of the 'You Gotta See This' show which is the one I reflected on. Again IIRC. If you review the video, take a look at the white shirt just as the Blazer comes off the side and hits the ground. Wow, the impact!
