In the last thread a lot of people when thur a lot of alternators wheeling, are these all stock?Do you have the same problem with a GM alternator conversion?
-
It would be a SWAG as to what thread you refer to. Alternators do not last long in muddy water, and bad wiring can cause them to burn up.

I know that the common upgrade is to install a GM / Delco alternator. Are there other alternators that would do the trick without the rewiring / bracket welding to boost up the amps? I read something once about a Mitsubishi upgrade that did just that however I haven't been able to find it again.

For the Kickers (55 amp ?) an XL7 alternator (90 amp) is only 3 mm larger diameter and the XL7 is also a little deeper. The XL7 alternator uses the same 3 wire schematic plus Bat. as the kickers but it uses a different 3 wire plug. New a 93 Kicker alternator is $105 and an XL7 alternator is $129. If you use a Tracker/Vitara after '99 alternator, they are larger yet, 70 amps, cost $165, and use the same 3 wire plug + Bat. as the XL7. (And I was able to use my Tracker alternator as the core for the XL7 alternator.)
Both of these require a different base mounts than the Kickers.

Thanks BRD HNTR... something more to think about... ;) I just installed a accesory fuse block and think I might even put in a radio now....
I know that once i do it will be too much for my current system. I'm thinking to do an alternator upgrade and put the winch / lights on the accesory block then. Most of the time they won't run and i doubt they will ever run concurrent while I own it. But ya just never know..... :)
