Title: Sammy towing capacity
Post by: nprecon on June 29, 2012, 08:39:00 PM
I was cruising southern Indiana today on 31W and passed a farm field with a Sammy sitting in front of a farm implement.  It peaked my curiosity so I turned around to check it out and talk with the guy.  By the time I got back he was preparing to pull out onto the highway with the implement in tow.    I'm thinking the implement was close to the weight of the Sammy.  His Sammy was pulling it down the road at about 35MPH.   Too cool!  A great looking little Sammy to boot!~

To answer your question haphazardly:  800Kg, I think.

I have pulled a trailer loaded with 1500 pounds of dirt and 1000 pounds of gravel - NEITHER of which I would reccomend to do except under emergency conditions and along sidestreets.  This was done with a 1.6 8-valve equipped with 4.625 dif gears and 30 inch tires.

I also pulled an 800 pound camper trailer to a ZookiMelt (945 miles round trip) and, in the process, destroyed a clutch with 25000 miles on it (broke the center out of the clutch plate).

Don't abuse your Samurai with heavy towing or bad things may happen...

I'm allowed to tow 2900lbs with mine here in sweden, but that is with a trailer with brakes. But in reality I would probably set the limit to about 1500lbs.

Those sprayers are actually made to be towed behind samurais and trackicks, polaris rangers, JD gators, etc (it lists all those in the advertisements).  So they don't weigh as much as you think they do.  I have read where they weight around 1200lbs.

That's pretty kewl NPRECON... and it was in my neck of the woods to boot. I live in Southern Indiana and 31 is is pretty close to me (the other side of Columbus)...

I have seen Jeeps around here pull sprayers. But then this is Corn / Bean Country so I never think much about it. But as far as a Sammi ... never... Might be cause I live in a 1 Sammi town... Mine... LOL...
