Title: Power steering
Post by: Flatlander on July 08, 2012, 10:22:18 AM
Anyone know how much horsepower is robbed fron an engine with the installation of a power steering unit.  I have a 95 tracker, 1.6, 5 speed.  Stock with the exception of a K&N filkter kit and a bigger exhaust system.  I have a complete unit but not sure if i wanna install it yet.  Running 33's is hard enough on the power.  Thanks

For it to rob you of too much power you would have to be going under five miles per hour, I would not worry about it the only problem I had with mine is driving in deep snow it would over heat so I added a cooler to it.

I would have to guess, and my guess would be at the most 2hp, and it would only pull that much whilst you're turning AND if you did something like hold it against the stops, or if you use the steering to hold the tire against a wall or rock in an attempt to climb it.

Steering straight ahead, rolling down the highway or similar, the power loss is going to be negligible - now - get out there and fit it.
