Just got a '99 tracker a week or two ago and want to put a lift on it with some bigger tires. I am new to all of this and could use a little help figuring out which lift to get. I've been searching around and so far I've found the Rocky Steady 4.5" combo kit and and SR Customs 4" lift kit. When it comes to tires, I have absolutely no idea of what to get. Any suggestions for either tires or lifts would be awesome! Thanks!

Hay welcome to the wonderful world of zuki's. I am running sr customs 4" lift on my 01 tracker 4 door. Mudchild on this site is the sr customs man. I love the quality of his lift and he is very quick to respond if you have any questions. the largest tire you can run with that lift is 31's and everyone recommends that you don't run any larger. when you install the body lift you will have to modify you front and rear bumper so they sit 2" higher. Also the shifter will have to be adressed as will hit the bottom part of the bezel. here is a pic of mine with sr custom lift installed with my 31's on.

I never had to do anything with the shifter, i think that may be only if you have a manual transmision.

Hey thanks, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do any modifications to the tracker if I lifted it, but if need be i'm sure I can make it works. Thanks for the advice!!

Yah mine is a standard so I had to modify it. Instead of trimming the bezel I cut my sifter and wedged it at anew angle. It is sitting in the stock position now only shorter. If you can weld the bumper relocating is easy. Well the rear is simple anyway just get some 2" Square tube and drill some holes. Mount the tube on the top bumper mounts and put a couple of self tapping bolts in the bottom. For the front if you can weld cut the bumper mounts out of the bumper and move them up 2" and weld them in. That way is easer then making relocation brackets if you can weld.

if you dont mind fender triming i have fitted 33" tires on 8 inch offset rims with a jeff 2" suspension lift, no body lift at all, it still rubs a bit wen hitting bumps in the rear but easy fix with bumpstops and a bit in the front wile turning sharp, but its driving and cut a little as i go. trying to cut the less that i can to keep the factory look, but 31" is easier on everything of course

8" offset rims. I am only running 8" rims with 33's. We do find a way if that is what we want to run though. How about a photo?

i had 225/75/16 before on stock rims, witch was rubbing the frame and control arm at full lock, last picture shows the 33" in the rear and stock 215/65/16 tires in front, quite a difference in size.

It is hard to imagine putting those puny tires back on again isn't it? Looks like a very capable rig. Are running 8" rims? What is your backspacing?

tires are 33x12.50x15 rims are 8" wide for the backspacing i have never checked, i know the rims were rubbing the caliper and i have grinded the caliper down to fit, this is known to happend to alot of vitara owners trying to put on 15" aftermarket rims. i am gona try to find 10" wide rims to see if it gona make the top of the tire flatter, if so it will give me less rub everywere lol

The wider rim will probably increase your rub. Tires will stick farther out from the body and when turning and compressing probably forced into the body more.

it dosent rub because of how wide is the tire, it rubs in the height, wider rims should make the tread area flater and give me a tad bit of room, cause 12.50 tires on 8"wide rims makes the tread area round a bit so bacicaly makes it higher a bit

Wrong. What pressure are you at? You should be well under 30lbs with a 33x12.5R15 under a 4 cyl Vitara.
That size tire on a 15x8 is the most common combination for 33's. Has been working great since the 70's.
The wider the rim the more it sticks out away from the suspension and the body. When you turn or compress there will be more tire sticking out away from the center to rub your body or whatever.
Knowing your backspacing will be important as well. A 2.5" backspacing will stick your tires far out and into the body under turning or compression while a 4" will pull it in under the truck more. If I remember correctly the stock backspacing is around 4". Not knowing this while fitting a tire/rim combo is like trying to do a basic math problem but without knowing the first number you're basing everything off of.

try on a 33" on one 8" wide rim and one on a 10" wide, put it side by side with the same psi, you will see a difference in height, i know what you are saying about the wheel sticking out, even if it does stick out more, it wont be as bad, my tire rubs in the middle of the tread and not on the corner/sidewall of the treads

The difference will be minor. Quarter inch tops unless you are comparing a 14" wide tire on a 7" rim vs a 12" wide rim. This has been beaten to death over and over but urban myths won't give up about it.
Never did answer what pressure you're running in your tires.
The corner/sidewall doesn't matter. Think of the arc your front tires turn though. Now move that out further away from the body yet still going under the body when turned (unless you run 0 or negative backspacing and the tires are completely out from under the vehicle by several inches) and you're just increasing the chances of the tires rubbing.
I had a '96 Tracker with 6" of lift and 31x10.5R15's on 15x7's with 2.5" of backspacing. Deep dish wheels for sure. My tires cleared the slightly notched fenders when turning and compressed only barely despite the stiff ass 6" Calmini lift and shorter/narrower tires.
How yours clears I have no clue.

we use our truck for offroad, we dont mind cutting fenders and remove inner fenders and such to fit, my friend has a 92 tracker with 35" tires on 10" wide rims with a 6" lift. i got 33" if i had a welder i would cut the floor in the fender well and back it up a 2" to avoid the rub. if i want to go extreme, i can add a 2" lift and cut the back quarter panel a 1/4" all around the fender well and i am sure 35" would fit.
33" without cutting or trimming is not posible for sure!
