Started to install my locker today, but unfortunately I never got very far before I had to head out for dinner.
When I was trying to pull the axels out, so I could take out the 3rd member, they wouldn't budge.
I took off the 4 bolts on the back of the drum that hold the retaining plate. That should be the only thing besides the C-clip that is holding the axels snug right?
Am I missing anything?
I wish I could find my Haynes manual. :'(

c clip what are you working on a chevy?
no the wheel bering is pressed into the axle tube.
all you have to do is put a chain around it and yank on it,
or use a slid hammer if you have one.
oh and if it is a samurai you need to take the brake lines loose from the wheel cylinders.

ya you have to use a slide hammer or some red neck version out it. their are no C clips.

mount the brake drum on backwards and smack it with a big rubber mallet. Or a 5lb sledge and a block of wood.

What I did was bolted a chain to two of the studs and made a big loop.  Then I put the head of a sludge hammer through the loop and had at it.  I'll try it again today.  I was just making sure nothing else had to be loosened off in order for it to come out.

Places like Auto Zone rent things like slide hammers for free!
That's what I use and never had a problem. Though I do have my own.

I made a slide hammer out of an old twisted axle and some square tubing and angle iron. Sometimes the bearings get a cold fusion thing going on and they are a bear to get out, even with a slide hammer.

I borrowed a friends slide hammer and finally got the damn things out.
I got the locker installed last night. When I set all the gears back up the backlash was perfect and things went pretty smoothly.
The Lock-rite instructions are very good and make the process very simple and clear. The only bummer is that when I went to put the drums back on last night the brake pads spread and I couldn’t fit the drum back on.
I had to remove the big spring on the backing plate so I could get the retaining plate to pass through. When I put the springs back on I think something unloaded in the process and the brakes don't work the way they are suppose to.
I'm just about to head out to the shop so I can get them working again, then I'm going to slap on the tires and see if the locker functions properly

Got the brakes working this morning.
I guess there’s an adjuster lever that opened up when I took the spring off. I just pushed the lever closed and the brake pads went back to their normal position.
The locker works great. Took a bit to get use to at first, but I think I got it figured.
Turning corners is a whole new ball game now. If you don't have the right amount of throttle applied the rear end starts bucking.
The ratcheting sidegears are kind of noisy, but I don't mind them. Haha I thought my truck got a lot of looks when I just had the lift in. Now when the ratchets are clicking away, EVERYONE turns their head’s. :P

ya thats what happens when i go around a corner with the welded rear. you here one rear tire cherping. never a hop though?
