Title: How I modified my 1.3 oil pan to a 1.6 (with pics)
Post by: c3006 on July 25, 2012, 02:53:22 PM
I have to modify a 1.3 oil pan and pickup to fit a 1.6 that we are putting into a Sami with no lift.  Does anyone know of a link that helps with this as I could not find one in a search.  Thanks. C

After reading some here I decided to tackle this myself.first I laid the to pans side by side to see what I needed to do to the baffles.i cut it out with a thin cutting wheel on my small side grinder.

This pic shows the 1.3  pan after mod.
Next I knocked out the back of the pan a little to clear the main cap bolts.

Next I cut the 1.6 pickup a couple of inches above the mount.

Measure the 1.3 tube and cut it off to go inside the slightly larger 1.6 base.

Don't forget to take the o ring off before welding, and really don't forget to put it back on after it cools.

Test fit 1.3 pickup into 1.6 base.

Tack weld tube and a bracket made from the old 1.3 tube moved to the mount hole on the 1.6 motor

Take it off and weld it all up.

Test fit pan.

I am not sure there is enough space on the 1.3/1.6L 8v oil pan to install a crank sensor.

I have a oil pan from a 98' 1.6 16 valve just laying around the garage, I was going to simply toss it in the recycle bin yesterday but thought better as someone might be able to use it,,,I can make ya a decent deal.

I appreciate the offer but I have a 1.6 oil pan,it will not clear the straight axel without lift. I have to mod the 1.3 pan and oil pickup to work on the 1.6 block. I am hoping that this has been covered here already as I'm sure I'm not the first to go here. Thanks. C

You definitely aren't the first to go there.  It has been done many times before.
I can tell you that the trackick and samurai pickup tubes have to be cut and welded together.  You use the engine end of the trackick tube and the bottom end of the samurai tube.
Some of the baffles have to be cut out, in order for the tube to clear.
Usually the back of the pan has to be hammered a little, to get it to clear the rear bearing cap....although, sometimes you can get by with doing some slight grinding on the part of the cap, or the cap girdles/bolts/washers (if it has them), that is hitting the pan.
Here are the pics of how I modded everything on one that I did.
