I THINK I'M GETTING THERE OR ATLEAST IN THE NEED OF AN ADJUSTMENT ;D
-
my dad adjusted mine and u could tell a total difference..but now it is worse then it was before he adjusted it...like i think itl last a few more months if im careful but itl need to be done..first repair my tracker will need lol

In most cases you need to:
Flycut the flywheel
Replace throwout bearing
Replace pressure plate
Replace clutch disk
Replace pilot bearing
Replace rear main seal (easier to do it now than after it leaks all over your new clutch)
Consider replacing clutch cable (not always necessary)
I don't think I forgot anything. ;)
-
and how much do u that will run :o
-
Labor price not sure what the job pays in the book but it's usually $30 to cut the flywheel and the other parts you can add up from online catalogs to get a rough idea. I do everything myself so I can't give you a real world for instance price.
-
well how hard is all that to do urself? and what kind of special tools am i gunna need?
-
You can usually buy a clutch kit that comes with all the components mentioned above.
To replace the clutch is actually pretty simple in terms, but it is a lot of work.
- You will have to take out your shifters from the T-case and Transmission.
- You will have to remove your rear drive shaft
- You will have to unbolt your tranny from the bell housing and cross member so it can be slid back.
- You will have to uninstall the old clutch components.
- You will have to remove the flywheel so it can be machined.
There are probably a few steps that I am forgetting. I haven’t actually installed a clutch myself, but that's how it was explained to me.
-
remove front drive shaft, mabey the linkage for the clutch? dunno havn't changed mine yet.

Kreg covered it for the most part. There are short cuts you learn as you go. Make sure you pick up a service manual or at least a Haynes manual, a torque wrench, and some blue locktight. An impact gun makes disassembly quick.

well it seems at my new job ill be working nights 9pm-6am but that is set in stone =) every week..so i might still tackle this
can it be done with just one pearson?
heres another thing im worried about..when i pay someone it will be warrentied..so what are some things that i can mess up??
trying to weigh the pros and cons..obvioulsy if it costs to much then i will just do it hell or high water

A local shop told me that it would cost $800 labor to replace the clutch... plus parts! ::)
I did it myself for $150 (clutch kit) and a few afternoons after work.
The clutch kit I bought included a new pressure plate, clutch plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and clutch alignment tool.
Everything is pretty straight forward... remove driveshafts, remove tranny/tcase assembly, take out the old parts, replace with new, have the flywheel machined (my uncle, who was helping me with this, just took a rotary sander to it and roughed the surface up) and put everything back together again.
-
ok so where can i get this clutch kit??
and where can i have the fly wheel machines? why do i have to have it machined to?

You get it machined because it probably has high spots which can cause hot spots that make your new clutch slip and prematurely fail. Also it removes any glazing from slipping the old clutch. Basically it gives your new clutch a true spinning freshly machined surface to grip on. You'll have to look in the phone book or call around to find a machine shop in your area to have it done.
-
ok thats what i thought..kinda like having ur rotors turned =)
bear with my guys this is my first major dismantaling of my car..and it is my DD so its a bit frightning..but paying more then 200-300 for a clutch is much scarier =)
and when i call the machine shop they will know what im talking about when i tell them i have a fly wheel i need fixed??
it looks my first pay check is 3 weeks out..so i still have some time..itl be a doosy though since i make 12 bucks and hr at 40hrs a week now =) ( so happy)
-
HEY don't worry. We're all here for ya. ;D
Just tell them you need your flywheel resurfaced.
-
ok so since i have a day off tommorow( love saying that =)) im gunna hunt down one of those "kits" that has the goodies and price that..then im gunna call around to see how much it is to have someone else do it
ill probably end up doing it myself
can i get that kit at like napa??
-
I got mine at Auto Value (might be a local chain) so you should be able to get it at any parts store... just call up your local parts store :)
-
thanks alot for the help..i really really apreciate it =)
sucks not having anyone local to help lol makes things seems really hard sometimes..but soon as i get paid im getting a TQ wrench and the kit thing =)..probably either more jack stands..or another jack, havent figured that out quite yet lol
-
Do you have a sammy or a kick?
That makes a huge difference with the the ease of the clutch install.
-
if you are going to try to do it yourself, i would get some one to help you. it can be fun trying to wrestle with a tranny and operate the jack at the same time.
also when you pull the drive shaft out of the t-case be ready all the oil will come out.
it really make it easier if you can borrow a transmission jack from someone too.

thank you NY...and unfortunantly since my dad has moved back to the bay area i do not have anyone that will help me..what little "friends" i have wouldnt be bothered with getting dirty...but someone said something about using a ratched strap...just may help me =)
if anyone lives near say ill pay for ur gas food and beer =) lol
-
Where are you at?
-
i am in antelope which is about 25-30 mins with traffice from down town sac..although im still in sac county
antelope is near rocklin and roseville for further reference
-
ok i went to price the clutch kit thingy today..150 from the "hub" store of kragen and 170 at ther estore...ill find the hub store and save the money if i can
the rear main seal was 12$..that all sound like good prices?? my dad says its to hard to change the clutch so my mom thinks its to hard to so both of my rents are wanting to just pay someone...........!!!!!!
but since its only like 200 bucks with the TQ wrench and stuff i think ill do it myself..unless i can find a shop to do it for like 300-350..
-
If your parents want a shop to do it, then let them pay the labor costs ;D
It's really not that hard... I did it, and I'm no mechanical wizard.
-
well my rents just think that i dont know anything about cars..but whatever
i found a shop that may do everything in that "kit" for 300 bucks...i also need to do the timing belt and they say they can do that for 110 or something plus an oil change for 18 bucks...so im gunna see if i can do it all at the same time and get a discount =)
-
Sounds like a good deal.
-
yah it does to me beucase he says if i make an appointment and drop it off in the morning he can do it all in one day...so theres no chance ill have to bum a ride to work ;D
