Title: Help with crankshaft gasket

How hard is it to replace the crankshaft gasket?  Local shop says it'll be 5 hours of labor and $500+ to have them do it.   
I expect the part would be really cheap and don't want to pay the cash.  If anyone would like to talk me through it, please let me know.

What are you calling a crankshaft gasket?  Rear main crankshaft gasket?  Front crankshaft seal?  Oilpan gasket?  Headgastket?
