Title: rear end popping
Post by: leopoldsami on August 06, 2012, 06:37:12 PM
ok i have a 86 sami lifted with 30s and a detroit ez auto locker. Lately it has been popping when i take off from a dead stop. or backing out and turning. Could that be the locker? or bushing on the rear leafs are cracked and a few are missing. I dont know if it could be that too

Does it pop when travelling straight ahead?  the locker shouldn't.

i have a lockrite.
it pops now and then. sometiimes after accelerating after a turn. as if "mid ratchet".
i don't notice it offroad.
i don't worry about it, but it can be quite a smack sometimes.

I have had a rear Lockrite and a rear Detroit. Both popped and when turning tight and slow it would also buck and ratchet.
I was told it was normal at the time.
I now have a selectable locker and have zero issues with it.

Check your Ujoints, you may have an upper ujoint, output bearings that are starting to have some play, not too hard to check and eliminate as the issue, getting under there and rolling the wheels back and forth may enable you to track down the sound more precisely.
