I noticed a bunch of very warm air coming into the footwells on my 1995 Sidekick (manual) lately. Pulled the shift boot (the one right below the shift knob on the center console), and noticed the lower boot is torn; I can see the ground trough the boot. I'd like to replace this since it heats up the cabin quite a bit.
From what I've gathered, it looks like this part isn't sold by anyone anymore. Any insight on this? Is this going to be a junkyard thing?

I'm sure there are plenty of good used ones around. A quick post in the classifieds should net you a couple of them. ;)

There are three boots on the shifter, which Suzuki calls the #1, #2 & #3 boots, counting from the bottom up - the #1 boot is a round boot that seals the shift lever to the transmission extension (and can only be purchased with the shift lever - although I do have an alternate for this), the #2 boot is a rectangular boot that seals the shift lever to the transmission tunnel and can be bought separately, the #3 boot is cosmetic and covers the gap betwen the shift lever and the console - this is also available separately..
For a 95 Sidekick the #2 boot is 28136-60A10, $27 at SouthWest Suzuki Motors - a smear of dishwashing liquid will help it slide over the fat part of the shift lever when installing it - removing a used one from a vehicle without tearing it can be challenging - a couple of long thin screwdrivers will make it easier.

In your post you say you know of an alternative or boot #1 what is it? outside of auto zone tech manuals you seem to bee the only source aware of the three boots.

It can be replaced with a section cut from a steering rack boot or gaiter - you'll need to measure the outside diameter of the shifter tower and get a rack boot with an inner diameter to match - when I say inner diameter, the rack boot has pleats that allow it to stretch as the rack moves - the inner diameter of the narrow section of pleat is what you have to match to the outer diameter of the tower neck. You're going to cut maybe two or three inches from the end of the boot, slip it over the shift lever (use liquid soap as a lubricant) and then ty-wrap the boot to the tower.
I'm sorry I don't have pictures of this, but when I did it, I wasn't expecting to have to explain it - both the transmission & transfer case shifters on my car were done this way.
