Title: gutless 1.6l 16v
Post by: chadstichter on September 02, 2012, 11:38:07 PM
it has a fresh rebuilt 1.6 16v with only 250 miles on it and it is extreamly gutless. i thought it they were just like that but then i drove a buddys and it is lifted even more with 31s also and it darn near lights them up. i was wondering if any one knows anything that i could to help it. i already have a k&n and i took the plumbing out that goes from the air box to the fender stuff. if anyone knows any other upgrades besides a turbo it would help

thanks

A 2" exhaust is needed.

Also, even though the engine is freshly rebuilt, do a compression check.

Stock cam?

I only know of two places that advertise high lift cams for the 16v SOHC engines, Suzukird and Zukination, the Suzukird is a complete valvetrain so it is big $$$, the Zukination/Altered Ego cam is a regrind that has the maximum amount of lift as possible without moddified rockers.

Play with your timing a bit.  On mine when I switched motors I had to switch to running it 2 degrees advanced over stock before it would run well.  Strange as the old motor ran with timing dead on.

Add a little oil into the sparkplug holes and retry the compression test(this is called a wet test), also it sure wouldnt hurt to do a leakdown check. #4 does seem to be low in compression, could be rings, valve seat or even too much clearance on the valve lash.

I would guess that the vakve timing is out. For a cam try SuperF1y on teamswift.net, he has a number of different grinds.
