Title: output shaft still leaking after seal replacement?

back again, if it's not one thing it's another lol. So i replaced the seal yesterday and there way a fresh spot in the driveway this morning and at school when i left. When I was taking it out I put a small nic in the inner part that the seal is pressed against (should have been more careful!!!), it doesn't seem like it would make much difference though. I got the seal at napa, made sure it was seated properly before reinstalling the drive shaft and it's still leaking, not even slower, the same as before! could the leak be caused by something other then the seal? or did i ruin it by putting that little chip in the aluminum.

The drops bead at the thick part just past the u joint.

i've heard of putting 2 seals in, anyone have much luck with that?

any advice would be great!

It is possible that the "nick" is the source of the leak - exactly where is the nick?

The outer surface of the seal needs a smooth surface to seal against - a scratch or nick there can leak, but you can usually get around that by coating the outer edge of the seal with RTV sealant, the inner surface of the seal also needs a smooth surface, and this is usually the rotating shaft or whatever - problem is that these sometimes wear and are no longer smooth - you may be able to fix this with a speedi-sleeve

Because you say the drops bead on the shaft makes me think it's the inner surface of the seal that's leaking.

i think it might be that as-well, because where the nic is, it is pretty much impossible for that to be the source. the nic is in the metal part of the casing that separates the bearing from the seal (i reached too far back when trying to remove the seal). if you are unsure i will try load a picture of it tomorrow. I did a Google search for the speedy sleeve, looks like a pretty promising fix. thanks a lot ford em, check back tomorrow for that picture and let me know if i ruined everything or if I'm ok haha

also is the speedi sleeve avaiable at auto part stores??

i did notice some of the teeth were a little dented on the output shaft too, is that what you mean by wear? it was only 2 or 3 small dents.

edit:i discovered they sell the speedi seals (and imitations) on rock auto dot com, as it turns out.
