any body have a fix or patch for the dome light not working issue?
i recall it has to do with a small control box near break pedal
my dome light, drl, map lights just dont work.
the drl issue is no biggie but the lack of dome and map light sucks
any input would be great
btw its a 2000 tracker
thank you

To the best of my knowledge the dome light on a 2000 has no control box - unless your interpretation of dome light differs from mine, so let's clear that up as the first step - you say "dome light", I think interior light on ceiling.
Next - the dome light has two controls, the first of which is a switch on the dome light itself, and that over rides the second, which is the door switch(es). If you cannot turn the dome light on from the switch on it, you have one of the following problems - a blown fuse, a blown bulb, a defective dome light fixture or a missing ground. Get a DVM or test lamp, open the dome light and start checking.
-
the bulbs are good as is the fuse and switches and grounds
the dome light and the day time running lights stopped working at the same time
-
Did you do as I suggested? Is there power at the dome light fixture?
-
there is no power to the dome light or the map lights
sorry i forgot to list that with the symptoms
thank you
-
If there is no power to the dome light, then you have either a blown fuse or a broken wire between the fuse panel & the dome light.
-
i will check that out
now how does the drl work in to that.
when it worked the dome light would go out when you put the car in gear and the drl would come on
-
Looking at the wiring schematics that I have for the 2000, there is no connection between the dome light & the DRLs - my diagrams are for Suzuki, the Tracker may be different - HOWEVER - dome lights have been ground switched since time immemorial, so you still need to resolve the "no power" to the dome light issue.
-
i do need a good book for this thing.
is there a common relay or something for the drl and dome light?
could you scan a copy of the wiring diagram?
-
Check the door switch, ( the one that shuts the dome light off when you shut the door.) They get rusty and the switch body grounds to the sheet metal.
-
all five bad at once?
-
i looks more like a bad relay or some thing than a switch
i have checked and cleaned all , they are in good shape
-
The door switches are on the ground side of the circuit - if there is no power to the dome light fixture (which you have supposedly established with either a DVM or a test light), then a defective door switch although a possibility is not a consideration at this point.
Additionally - the switch on the dome light itself bypasses all five door switches, so the light would/should still work from that switch even if the door switches were ALL defective.
The diagram is attached, but I doubt it'll tell you any thing more than I already have.
-
what colour is the power to the dome light fixture?
-
You asked me for the diagram, now you want me to read it for you too?
According to the diagram it's white - but - that's a Suzuki diagram, not a Tracker one.
Now let me ask you this - since you already know there is no power to the dome light - what color was the wire you were checking?
-
thank you for all the input
i found away to make it work
there is silver box above the gas pedal
there are 2 white wires one with power and one with out
if you jump the 2 together the dome and map lights work as designed .
it used to tune the dome light off when you put it in drive and now it takes a couple minutes
so it looks like the control box is bad but the dome lights work
-
update #2
after driving to work this morning every thing is working again
the day time lights the dome and map lights every thing!
-
So, what was it that fixed the problem?
-
It sounds like that silver box isn't allowing power through like it is supposed to. Without a wiring diagram or repair manual I have no idea what it could be though. Maybe someone else will chime in.
-
On the interior light subject I put a LED kit from NAPA in my 93 sidekick. It was from street glow but I forget the part #. just snaps into the light socked with a little bending of the tabs and it is a square sheet of LEDs. Now I can leave it on accidentally and not draw the batts down as much. And it is a cool whiter light then yellow. better kevlins.
-
I've used a similar LED "replacement bulb" in the dome light on my Swift and the reading lighst of the GV, but after a while I took them back out - they were so bright they hurt my eyes.

Well your not suppose to drive with them on.
-
Who said anything about driving?
Taking your comment at face value though - GVs are fitted with map/reading lights - using LEDs in the map/reading lights renders them vitually useless, either for reading with the vehicle stationary, or driving with a co-driver or navigator attempting to use the passenger side light to read a map or route instructions
