I have recently been interested in acquiring a 302 motor in running conditions for under a hundred bucks. At the same time, I have been researching this topic throughout the web on how this swap can be done. My tracker is currently 2wd with a t-case, no front axle. Is it possible to swap the 302 with the c4 tranny and keep the stock tracker rear end? the motor is stock. I will eventually switch over to an 8.8 rear and dana 30 in the front but just out of curiosity, can this be done? Any other little hints or tips will be greatly appreciated

With a custom drive-shaft you should be able to. Not sure how well it will hold up to larger tires though. One problem you will have to work around is getting the exhaust to fit. But without a front diff you shouldn't have to worry about oil pan clearance.

are there any suggestions for a tranny/t-case combo? I read somewhere about using a samurai t-case to a t-5 or c4 tranny??

I would just stick with the Samurai t-case. It's there and a divorced t-case so you just need a custom drive shaft out of your transmission that goes to the Samurai flange.

Sounds good, my 16v is already past the 230K mile marker on the ticker and starting to show signs of its age. I figured with an all new setup and a bit more power to turn the 35's, it was time to lay the 16v to rest. The 4x4 conversion probably won't come till later. I've got a lockrite locker on the way for the rear end so i'm excited for the end result

Have you considered the weight over the front end ? Off roading can/will be affected big time. Just replacing the springs isn't going to change the negitve that 3X the motor weight will do to your Kick/Tracker. Might want to look into it. ;)

Just because something is cheap don't make it a good swap candidate. There has been and will be many V8 Suzukis out there, most heading to scrap shortly after. I have watched wonderful wheelers turn to embarrassing, plowing crap with lots of noise from under the hood after a V8 transplant. YMMV.
My .02 and worth what ya paid.

what recommendations would you make to the suspension?
