Title: Towing Question
Post by: myvega on September 22, 2012, 08:01:43 PM
I have an 86 Sami that I tow behind a 36 foot Motorhome, the sami has a front tow bar. When I go around a sharp corner the front wheels on the sami want to turn the wrong way. I've tried two different tow bar and still have the same result. HELP

Have towed Vdubs and used a bungee from steering wheel to seat frame to dampen. Worked.

Funny you say that, after it happened twice to me yesterday I ran a bungee that way and it never did it again. I was reading on a different forum about checking the caster, if its to far back it will do that. So a alignment shop is in my future. And thats for replying.

Seems to me like a towed vehicle would HAVE to turn the same direction as the towing vehicle... ???

I have towed mine thousands of miles. Noticed I needed to release the emergency brake and as well as turn igntion to unlock the stearing. I also remove the front drive shaft because the neutral position on the Tcase still leaves the front shaft engaged with the rear shaft. If you have done all that then I would check your front bearings and knuckles for excessive play or if you have a lift it could be the axel is tilted to keep drive shaft angles and at same time ruin caster settings... Caster and camber doesn't change by itself.
