Title: Sidekick 3"calmini kit needs new springs, O.M.E. ?
Post by: ToyYoda on September 24, 2012, 06:50:30 PM
Have a few friend who are in need of replacement spring on there X90/Sidekicks. Has anyone tried replacing the Calmini springs with HD Old Man Emu's.

You can, I've used both, but in the end the best coil spring replacement I've found are the King coils ( formerly Suspension Specialists ) sold by FOA. A bit of fab or fitting has to be done but the coils last and DO NOT tend to sag like the Calmini's.

King (like king shocks) ? They do sell springs. And what part # did you order. Or lbs spring rate/size ?  :D

Yep, King like the shocks, but I got mine from FOA out of Las Vegas.  I'm running the 550 lb 3"id coils, but I have a lot of extra weight on the front of my rig. I got the 16" and trimmed a coil or so off the bottom to get the proper length and provide for a pigtail to seat in the control arm.  I also use an adapter I got from Mudchild on this forum to fit the coils into the upper mount as they are slightly bigger OD than stock. They have been the best coils springs I have used, I even have a set in the rear of my tracker too, 155lb. Ride quality is great and NO SAGGING! even after many, many trail and rock crawling miles.

BINGO ! That's where we need to start on this (pictured) X90. Thank you for the detailed answer. Where i live in Carlsbad ca. few, if any have vision to mod. Sidekick/Tracker or X90's further than "bolt-on". This "collective" group of owners on Zukiworld perpetuates our hobby/sport. Thanx again.

Is the F.O.A. spring a King ?  Also do you mind sharing the type of shock/pic .and of what/how you mounted the top replacement shock.

That's part of a kit he makes and sells. Some nice parts available from kreator. King and FOA are different brands selling pretty much the same thing.

How do i contact the person who sells the kit pictured ?  I typed "kreator" in the search column. Nothing comes up. Checked FOA as well. Any help on this would be great.

So I got some 150# 16" springs for the rear of NoBama (audikick) and they are still way to stiff. They are better than the Calmini by miles though. I am not looking for a bunch of lift, more of a soft ride. Bob is getting me some 125# springs this week and I will report back. Great price and quick shipping from FOA though.
