Title: TTB instead of SAS for a Tracker

I want to build a tracker but I want to stay IFS-ish but on 33-35's and I was thinking since the Tracker IFS is ok but without certain mods(yota cv/widening) it is a little weak for 33"+ tires what about a TTB set up since the ttb gives the ride and travel of an ifs with a little more strenths since you can get them in d44 trim.  Would that even be possible? I know width is an issue since it is a fullsize axle but i would go with a fullsize rear aswell.

Twin Traction Beam.  Like used on the 80s-90s Ford Rangers, Explorers, F150s.

I just did a little more research and it should work in theory(but everything does right? :laugh:).  The distance b/w the frame rails for the tracker is ~29" and the distance b/w the rails of a ranger is 26"-28" so the front ttb cross member should fit and then it becomes basically a SAS. Other than finding a way do go from a pass drop t-case to a drivers drop(Toyota t-case?).

What is the advantage of TTB vs. solid axle?  I'm curious why mimic a Ford?

TTB-just say no.   8)

I like my old Ford truck, but I do sometimes wish it had IFS or a straight axle instead of the TTB.  The steering is pretty vague and it also requires constant minor adjustments on the road.  Now that I stated that, it really isn't much different than a Samurai.   ;)

I lifted my TTB Ranger 8" and it drove like crap on the road.  It now has a straight axle under it and it drives great.
IMO, TTB with its "Y" linkage steering is a terrible combo...it makes the wheels toe in and out as the suspension cycles....not good for on road, even worse offroad.

TTB would be a really neat mod if you were looking for the stability of independant suspension with the duability of solid axle.  I have contemplated this many times.  I have had many Rangers and learned to love that suspension style. With the correct steering geometry, the toe problems can be minimized.  You will run into axle strength issue and steering problems if you increase the travel very far over the stock range.  Go for it!
