My rockers have needed replacing for some time now. The inner and outer rockers both couldnt be saved.Did a lot of researching over the past couple of weeks getting some ideas. I knew I didn't want to weld in replacement rockers so I seen a post on rockers that were also rock sliders. But all the ones I found were on 1st gen trackers and used box tubing. So I did some brainstorming and came up with using 5" by 1/8" thick round tubing. So I started with the drivers side today and it came out better than I thought it was gonna! I'll post pics in the next couple of days

Any plans on rhino lining or similar bedliner coating?
-
I want to but I don't know what to use. I've tried different bed liners and undercoatings on other things and didn't like any of them. I just painted it black for now. Got any suggestions on products to try?
-
i find the rustcheck bedliner good so far i've only been using it for 6 to 8 months so long term use hasn't been proven yet.

I am going to try Monstaliner next time. They have a wide array of colors and they sell a liner without the rubber particles Herculiner has. It goes on with a better final texture: no nibbles. They also make the Chassis Saver product. You can request four color chips (for free) from their color selection to make sure the color you think you want is the color you will actually get. I was only interested in one color, but you have to request four. It turned out well. The color I thought I wanted had more purple in it than it appeared to have on the web site and the color next to it was closer to what i had in mind.

I won't be using the Herculiner product again. I put three coats of it on my rockers (four years ago) and they didn't hold up to the chipping/rusting at all. I think Herculiner does not have the UV resistance it needs to have. When I coated my brush guard with it about 18 months ago, I just dipped the liquid part and tried NOT to get too many rubber particles in the coating. I put three coats of Herculiner fluid on the brush guard. After it dried I sprayed three coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss black over it to keep the sun from degrading it. So far, so good.
Looking forward to seeing your finished sliders. My rockers will need attention/replacement by next spring (dammit!). I have some rectangular tubing on hand for it now, but I'm totally open to new/different ideas.

I tried Hurculiner on my sliders. I does not hold up, it is like course sandpaper and holds mud and dirt better than anything. I would not use it as a last resort. And it catches fire real easy.
I am looking forward to photo's of your sliders.

i love it! makes me want to do the same even though i already bought replacement rockers. What kind of welder did you use? how long did it take you?
-
It looks good on your tracker. Nice job, and much stronger than the tin panels you replaced.
-
Thanks! I actually used the 90 amp mig welder from harbor freight. Best $100 I've ever spent! It really surprised me how good it works for the price! I worked on it pretty much all day Sunday and finished painting it at 8 Sunday night.

Did mine a couple months ago, used 3- 5' sections of 1 1/4" square tube, and 2- 5' sections of 1". Put some fiberglass over top and some rubberized rocker guard. I am very happy with the final product, rockers finally meant for rocks ;D
