Does anyone know what the spring rate is for the BDS 4dr front & rear springs & how long are they. I have been told the stock spring rate for the 4dr is about 500lbs, would like to know if the longer springs in the BDS kit is the same spring rate as stock, or more. I have found some 4 1/4" O.D. ( same as stock ) 500lbs 14" long, flat ground top & bottom which can be cut if needed.
Any help on this.
-
I've got the BDS Springs on my Sidekick. I'm guessing the rate is quite a bit higher than stock, as it rides noticeably stiffer. I don't know the number, though.

Just got a e-mail back from BDS & they said that there spring rates for the 2dr kit is 340lbs front & 280lbs rear
that seams to be a little soft when everyone is going with the ranger |removethispart|@ around 500lbs for the front & the jeep rears.... I don't know what they are.
-
Correct the front needs to be around 500 and the rears 125 or at most 150, I found on my kit that 150 is a little stiff still,I have 200 on the rear but I have a little trailer that I use and when we are out camping I fill the back with fire wood.I use F.O.A springs.

Thanks for the feedback... I am looking into some Eibach Off-Road Silver coil over springs. There a 3"I.D. with a 4.25"O.D. ( same as stock, so no clearance problems ) and 14" in length with a flat ground top & bottom, I can cut a little off the bottom to fit into the spring grove in the A-arm, and they have a 500Lbs rate, they have a 12" 500Lbs which is 2" longer then the stock don't know if that will give me a true 2" lift or not. In a 125Lbs for the rears they only have it in 12", so do you think that the 2" difference and the bigger rate will give a 2" lift, I know that the rear is lighter then the front, so not as much sag under weight.
Ooooo... It's a 4dr

This is sorta related to the subject, I am also needing to swap out some rear springs and my question is this:
The stock rear kick springs and shocks have approx 10" of travel. I have a 4.5" lift and my current rear shocks have just about 14.4" of travel, so I should be looking for approx a 14.5" spring in 125lb?
And seeing that length isnt available as is, would it be better to go with a 14" 125lb spring(and maybe a limit strap) or a 16" 125lb'r and cut it to fit? Does this make sense or am I missing something?
-
A 14" 150 only gives you 3"of lift but will drop out 4"s or so ,16" 150s only give you about 4 3/4" . We are putting 16" 125s on the back of the AUDI KICK to lower the height a little but still give it a good amount of drop out , for a nicer ride . Will up date after we put the other springs on.
-
thnx alot, looks like I will try the 16" 125lbr's first
-
Sorry I don't mean to sound dumb...LOL, but what do you mean by drop out??? I haven't heard that term before

There talking about articulation. Since the spring Is longer but softer 16in 125lb rate instead of 14 150. It will compress more under the weight of the vehicle then the 150. But when weight is relived it allows the wheel to articulate downward more. IE drop out
-
It will be very interesting to see where all of you end up with spring length & weight, height to frame and how much drop out you have.
I am running lifted YJ springs (should be 175 lbs) in back, with pig tail cut off and crimped to fit bucket. I like the ride, but have very little drop out, and have to use limiting straps to retain the springs. So your information will be helpful.
Thanks

TJ, not YJ. YJ's use traditional springs instead of coil springs. :)

You mean I could have sold them to Dave? Don't tell him.

Tallonxracer
the ride will also depend on how stiff the valving in the shock are also , thats one of the pro's fox shocks is that you can change the compression and rebound, the bad side for most is the price , but there is a pro to that also that they are rebuildable for about $25 a shock and you can get replacement parts without buying a new shock.

We put Greg's 125lb 16" springs in the rear and he likes them . set the ride height the way he wanted and lowered it 1 3/4"

I am running Monroe SensaTrac's for a 04' CRV in the rear. They came with the lift kit and should be decent with lighter springs. BTW the AE kit uses the same rear springs for 2 and 4 dr kick lift kits and would probably be fairly decent on the 4dr as I have a 2dr softie and an additional 300 lbs in back makes for a very nice ride with the tires aired up for the pavement.
Monroe part# 37199
Shock Compressed Length : 14.375"
Shock Extended Length : 24.250"
Shock Travel Length : 9.875"

How high is it setting now (to the bottom of frame)? And how much drop does he have?
-
I am sitting at 14 1/4" between the frame rail and ground at the rear arch and 13 3/4" at the front arch.
The rear springs are 16" when unloaded and approx 12 1/2"-13" with the kick(+200lbs of sand, no seat or spare) sitting on them.
-
In case you were talking to me it sits right at 22" at teh back and 22" at the top of the arch in front. The shock is only showing 3" of shaft at ride height so it has 7" left to drop out. However they are angled back a bit so I think there is a little more at the wheel.
Here it is right now. My driveway angles down a bit so it looks high in the rear. It is almost completley level. We are tearing the car down soon so I havn't done final adjustments on the front. The 125lb springs ride SO much better on the street. I will report back when I flog them a little.

oh also we compared my car to another that has the same kit on it and my front end was a little lower. We came up with the engine being a iron block must be quite a bit heavier. We are going to pump up the pressure in the shocks a tad to see how that does. If it isnt feeling right we may go a little heavier spring up front, but I am trying to aviod that as it rides very nice.
-
So the 125lbrs ride alot smoother, good to know. Hope ya get a chance to try them offroad soon, waiting to hear that report.

I am working with a 2-3" lift, 4dr. so would you use the 16" 125 and trim to level out the car if needed??
-
I like the 125# springs but I want it to sit a little lower than most people. I also want soft springs and lots of shock. I have Fox 50/90 on now. Like bob said the 125# lowered the car about 1 3/4" from the 150#. My car also has a 1" body lift so it looks taller.

What do you have for a lift in the front ?

can you measure the length of the 125lbr rear springs when parked?

I don't have the front springs yet, looking to get a set of the FOA 14" 500lbs, which if like the ranger 500lbs they should give a 2" or so lift. Was looking to get the front & rear at the same time, but want to level out the car, so that's why the question. Thinking the 16" can be cut down if needed, or do I need to go with the 18" because of the extra weight of the 4dr.
-
The 125# in the rear measure out at 13" sitting in my driveway. I do not have a big heavy bumper and just a small 30" spare.

If your only adding 2" to the front the most you would need is 14" rear
-
do you guys know the weights of your rigs at each corner, specify 2 or 4 door. looking to compare against mine
thanks
-
Kreator.. Thanks for the info will be getting the FOA 14" 500Lbs for the front & 14" 125Lbs for the rear
-
I do not know corner weights at all. I know my 2 door race kick weighed in at under 3,000# I dont remember what the exact weight was but it was the lightest of the group.
-
mine is 2901 with me in it, i have corner weights but not with me at the moment also wedge, front to rear percentage and left side. yes it was weighted on race car scales they said it was a first and probably last time they`ve weighed a sidekick lmao

Man, if that's what your race Kick weighs and it's the LIGHTEST of the group, I really don't wanna know what my adventure prepped pig weighs  2 tons ??!!
-
heavy cage and front tire and rim about 75lbs a piece (31x10.5x15 on 8 inch rims), rears weigh about 85 tire and rim (325x60x15 on 10 inch rim). weights with me in it 841left front; 744 right front; 655 left rear;and 661 right rear, rear percentage is 45.35%. also steel block 2.4 engine with trubo and stuff
-
Remember that we did strip alot of wieght from the race kick we also put alot in with the cage , 2 spare tires, and all the spare parts.
-
its surprising how quick it adds up just a liquid to air intercooler with the piping and tank full of ice and water and up.
-
yep your guys extra tires and if i`m not mistaken are running around 16 gal fuel tank ouch theres some weight full i``ve got 5 gal. and no spare parts on board
-
I got a set of new/used F.O.A. springs, 16" 150 pounders for the rear from kreator(Bob). Hands down they provide a far better ride out back on my Kick than the AE lift springs which are 300-350 pounders!
-
LOL very gently used springs. They were the ones I ordered and had on my kick for about 3 days.
