Title: California: Weber carb & body lift
Post by: CowboyKeller on October 25, 2012, 11:32:49 PM
I have a weber carb but I live in  California. Will it pass smog? Is there something I can put over the carb to make it smog legal?
Also the previous owner put a 3" body lift on it. Is this just for looks? What suspension should I get?

I guess the only advice is...good luck.  There's ways around it but even if you "know a guy" who works at a smog shop or know of any tricks like that, it is REALLY going to get cracked down on eventually here.
I'm not sure if it is effective yet, but there are supposed to be cameras mounted in smog shops for video verification of cars being tested.

Even IF the Weber makes it run better, they don't really give a $hit if it passes the actual EMISSIONS test---they look for the "proper equipment" that has been "certified" by the state (read: did the carb company put enough money in the state coffers for their product to be approved for street use).  Like I said, even if you can get it to pass now, it will be ever-more difficult to pass each year after...

No smog guy will touch it. They get caught and they out of business. Either keep it off road only, buy new stock carb and all the associated stuff or move. :D

I second the last option.  Leave this broke, corrupted, godforsaken hellhole of a state.  Oh, and let me know if you need a roommate.

I'm a little sour over some of the laws passed here recently, can you tell?? ::)
