Hello Everyone,
I purchaced a 1996 Geo Tracker a little over a month ago for $500. So far it has been a garage queen making repairs on it in order to make it street-legal, and safe again. I'm almost finished with the repairs, and have been searching the Internet looking for future mods. Needless to say, my search results lead me here most of the time. I figured it would be best to just join the group instead of just creeping.

Welcome! There are a good bunch of guys around here.
What had to be changes to make it street legal again?

Mostly a lot of rust repair. The fuel tank was hanging on by a thread due to the crossmembers being toast. I made some new crossmembers out of .120" thick 1-3/4" roll bar tubing, and new hangers for the tank out of pipe riser clamps. Right now I am in the process of putting new rocker panels on it, as well as patching any holes I find along the way.... It's such a joy dealing with rust living in western PA :-[. After I finish the rust repair, I'll be changing the valve seals so it doesn't smoke so bad on start-up, replacing the backup light switch, and getting the state safety inspection done. It seems to be in good shape mechanically (150k), just rusting apart in typical problem areas for most vehicles in this area.
I'm planning on lifting next year, trying to figure out how high it needs to go for 31's, and what backspacing I need on the wheels. The tires cannot extend past the body here in PA, but we are allowed a maximum of 3" fender flare.

this web site is really helpfull ive got lots of ideas and help from these guys. i have a 98 4 door that i put a 1.5in coil and strut spacer on the front and 84 honda accord springs in the rear with toyota land cruiser rear shocks. i ran 31s pretty good but a 1 or 2 in body lift would have been good with it. im not sure what the baack spacing was becuse i got the wheels and tires from craigslist. it ran really good it did great on the trails. transfer case gears would be a huge help to. if you have any questions about anything just personl message me
