Title: Sneak peek at the new WW3
Post by: Wildweasel on March 29, 2004, 03:59:39 AM
Just figured I would post up a pic of the rear of the tub on the Wildweasel. I am doing lots of finish up mods this year,
and will building a tube rear truck bed for it and a semi external cage. I also redesigned the front control arms to fit the tracker platform better.

What did you use to mold the tailgate section to the back of the cab? Sheet metal, fiberglass, body filler ??? It looks great. I cant wait to see the tube bed. A friend of mine did one on his cab truck (Toy) and it looked swet.

I freeformed it with sheetmetal and welded then used bondo-glas, (the stuff with fiberglass in it and resin gell) and then Body filler.   A few nips and tucks shall we say.
My shoulders gave up on sanding so I stopped and painted.
(one of those things that why Am I making Everything perfect and I will be covering it with a tool box and tube anyway?)

Kind of a "truggy" look I am going for. that and I will be running 35's this year too.

I need to go through and redo the site. My work comp is down waiting for a PS so maybe after I get that fixed.
The site is very outdated. I may also move it to my comcast
account (but I may still let work take the bandwith hit.
Thanks for the kind words. I need to try and take more pics as I work not just the end of the weekend. but I am often
exhuasted at the end of the day.
(back issues still.)
It will give me something else to do..

What benefits does cutting off the back of the Tracker and replacing it with a tube bed/rollcage yeild?

Looks great, BTW. :)

It looks good, are you going to re-mount the spare tire carrier on the rear door panel you molded to the back?

I am resewing the softop so it will fit. It will still zip out and mount much the same way. (I wanted to keep the open air for the hot weather. I will likly do that this weekend since payday is a week away. (damn Bi-weekly) as I need to buy the steel for the bed and cage next.

Okay I will change my sig, The reasons are I wanted to do it. ;D  Instead of hacking up the rear wheel openings more (My rear axle is pushed back 6")  to fit the 35's without rubbing on flex, (It REALLY flexes) and I want to do an external cage but not have it look like shit.
This way I can do all that and have the main hoop be behind the cab and then extend over and down like a D-90 defender.
(But with the front coming down to my rock rails.)

The tire will lay in the back of the bed. I already cracked 1 tailgate lugging a 33 around. (from the top of the tailgate down to about 4" from the top along the crease is cracked.

I realize not everyone will/does like what I am doing but thats fine.  It will be one of a kind and that is one reason I went to the tracker in the first place as built samis are very commen now.

How about a moment of insanity when I chopped the bed off? :o
I figure I will try to change the body type on my registration to pickup. See if Mass go's for it.
Trackup sounds okay.
