Title: 87 samurai rear proportioning valve

im looking for a 87 samurai rear proportioning valve and i cant find one any where. the one i have now is leaking. any one know where i can get a proportioning valve or is there a fix for this? any help is appreciated!

There's an 87 Samurai in a local boneyard and looks in good conditon (I'm surprised it's there).  Is the proportioning valve attached to the master cylinder?  Probably $25 for the valve + shipping, however, I've no way to verify condition.  I'm in Toledo, OH.

no its not attached to the master cylinder its on the frame under and just back from the passenger seat. iv decided to just bypass it and connect the brakes lines with a few unions. seeing how its a front disk and rear drum brakes so its kinda pointless.

Its been my experience that the Japanese didn't do to many pointless things to automobiles in general. I would think that that valve might be handy when braking at speed going around a curve but I can't say that for sure.  I think Low Range has them if you decide to replace it.

This is probably your best bet.  Low Range are reputable people.

Doesn't have to be on a curve - unless the vehicle is facing the direction of travel 100% (which is extremely rare), the vehicle is likely to swap ends.

What the proportioning valve does is reduce the rear brake effort so that the rear brakes don't lock first, something that is qute possible on these vehicles where much of the weight is over the front wheels - in a panic stop, you get weight transfer forwards, further unloading the rear wheels, they lock, and you get to watch your rear end come around and overtake the front.

Not a good idea to eliminate the proportioning valve.

I ordered one early this year from Suzuki for my wife's '86 Sammy.  It was pricey though.  Suzuki calls it a pressure metering valve.

While waiting for the new valve to arrive and for me to install, I used an adjustable hose clamp (metal bands with an adjusting screw) to keep the old valve from leaking.

I have a leaking rear prop valve on my 87 sami. Before I tear into it and possibly bugger it for good.......

Has anyone tried opening one up, as in prying off the round cap to see whats inside. Think i recall an old post somewhere of someone else doing that, and they just re and re an O ring inside, and fixed the leak.

I have opened brake proportioning valves from other vehicles, but never one from a Samurai - I'll bet there are no O-rings in there, they may be round, black & made of rubber, but that doesn't make it an O-ring (or a tire for that matter).

Rip off the cap, remove special bolt, use two thick rubber squares as a gasket. Drill two holes on these per location of the two nipples, and a thinner in thickness square peice of metal. Drill hole to match removed bolt. Done.

Oh in further note the thickness of the three peices must be not too thick, if they are the bolt will not thread in. No bueno. Should save some change. Plus it will work just as new.
