Title: Unimog axles under Samurai
Post by: camisami88 on March 29, 2004, 04:44:25 AM
What I need is the brutal truth.  Can it be done without large amounts of fabrication?  I'm kinda lazy and like wheelin' alot better than wrenching.  One thing I don't like is rolling.  My theory is to put 'Mog axles, that weigh half as much as my Zuk, in as ballast.  Should lower the center of gravity a bit.  Also the 40" tires on 20" wheels is mighty appealing, along with the portal axles for ground clearance help.  I do plan on modifying the body quite a bit to fit that big of tire.  Hopefully it will be legal for sreet use in PA, as this is also my work truck.

The real question is some of the tech, like offset of diffs, rotation direction and such.  If you know of any good 'Mog sites, I'd like to hear about them as well.  Thanks in advance for the help.

well i cant help u with specifics..but it will take ALOT of wrench time to put mogs on 40" tires under ur sammy...alot of time

plus then u will be more likely to break something (i got big tires syndrome (= )

i have seen mogs handle 48in rubber on a heavy truck and not break.  mabey a drive shaft if it was cheap but never a axle.
