Title: Black007's 2000 Tracker
Post by: Black007 on June 27, 2015, 12:52:49 PM
Hey guys!!

I noticed that you guys had a large data crash! (It's happened on other fourms I'm a part of and it really sucks :( ) anyhow I figured I'd make my self a little build thread / general knowledge I've learned thread. I bought my tracker for a couple diffrent reasons. For one, it has a legitimate frame and transfer case (even with the abysmal low range) and it is small. I can't afford a Jeep right now and I like Japanese vehicles so it was a good fit! (I know it says chevy but it is a Suzuki lol). My plans are to do a 2 inch lift, 235 75 tires on steel wheels, and I also want to make some tube bumpers and skids, more to practice my welding skills than anything. Physically the truck is in okay shape. It does however have some odd transmission noise, which i go through in tje YouTube link. I'll update with some pictures when i get home from work!

Thanks for having me guys!

Despite this the vehicle drives quite well! I think I have located that noise in the video down to a throwout bearing.

It appears to be in good condition.  The throw out bearing would have been my guess as well.  I don't think I've ever seen that large of debris come out of the drain plug before.

The engine sounded tight when you started it too.  Virtually no timing chain noise.  How many miles/Kilometers are on your Tracker?

I painted my grill bar when I mounted a brush guard as well.  I like the looks much better than the chrome strip... sticking out the front of a small utility truck that has no other chrome on it.  I kinda thought it made Buster look like he was wearing braces on his teeth .

Tha ks for the compliments! I figured for the price it was quite good! It has 206 000 kilometers on it. So that's pretty low. The engine does sound very good. There is a starter noise but that's no big deal at all!

The drain plug thing scared me quite a bit! The transmission however works almost perfect so I'm hoping that it wasn't something important lol.

Your tracker looks great!!! The red emblem on blue looks good! It would have looked silly with the brush guard and a chrome grill. I agree!

Also I am going to make my diff guard today after I put in some work on my girlfriends Hyundai. I'll post up some pics!

I am not saying your throwout bearing isn't making a noise, but the parts in your transmission oil did not come from your throwout bearing.  I would say one or your roller bearings is falling apart inside of the transmission.  It is time to find a replacement, or get a bearing kit and replace your bearings, before parts start eating gears.

Thank you for explaining this to me!  The pieces do somewhat resemble a bearing cup so that makes sense. I will probably just buy a new transmission for the vehicle and install it with a new clutch just to be on the safe side of things.  I knew the throw out bearing would not put stuff in my trans oil lol

alright guys I dropped the trans out of the Tracker on the weekend and I found this...
(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/345/20218792099_6db2fb13c8.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/wNEAtM)received_10152956537171345 (https://flic.kr/p/wNEAtM) by Andrew Turner (https://www.flickr.com/photos/120745384|removethispart|@N05/), on Flickr

Good news is that the rest of the transmission is great, so for 90 bucks of bearings I can rebuild it. The synchro rings are still good so no need to replace those. Also gonna replace a loose U-Joint while im in there. Oil pan issues will also be solved now and hopefully this will be an awesome beater!

Glad you identified and corrected that issue!  Hope it runs for a couple hundred thousand more kilos for you!

i hear alot of ppl question even 225s in the tire selection.  i admire that you get the bigger 235s and just work with what you have.  fitting larger tires than factory isnt that scary, didnt scare you or me either  get r done- you only live once lol.

These really are great little trucks right out of the box.  A good set of tires transforms their ability even more.  Tons of fun and utility.

I agree, I just wish I had more ground clearance! It scrapes over everything! Haha.

So I've had the truck laid up for a bit. Decided to take it out today and strip out the interior in preperation for a new floor and body mounts. Gonna head to the bone yard in the next few weeks and get some parts for her. I should have the floor back together by the end of next week. Then rockers and wheel arches. Then paint. All body work will be new metal, not fiber glass and resin.
