Title: New to my zuki. Head gasket problems
Post by: bubbzzuki on July 12, 2015, 08:39:44 PM
Hello everyone. Just got my first samurai. 1988 lifted and was told it had low range kit in it. Anyone have any helpful tips for replacing the head gasket on the 1.3? I filled the radiator and it in turn filled #2 cyl with water. I'm hoping the head is not cracked. Won't really know the damage till I get inside.

How rapidly did it fill ?  The intake manifold has coolant flowing through it, that's actually where I'd start looking - head gaskets & cracked heads have to be pretty bad before you get stuff flowing freely.

Do a compression test - the numbers will be low because the engine will be cold, but, at least you'll have a better idea of what's going to.

Pulled the head off today. The gasket was blown between the two middle cylinders pretty bad. Now I just need to get all the water and oil mixture out of the motor. The cylinder walls look good and no noticeable piston slop like my last jeep motor I tore down.
