Title: I need a better carburetor for my '87 Sammi

My Samurai is still pretty much stock.  The T-Case has been geared down and the tires are oversized but that is about it.  I have been dreaming of swapping the engine simply to get fuel injection but can't afford that option right now and besides the original engine is still running strong.  My biggest current problem is in the carburetor.  Currently I have a Weber 32/36 DGAV on it which works great except when I really need it....

Heavy bumping and steep inclines kill the engine.  I've heard people say it is because the float is cutting off the fuel but it acts more like it is flooding out.  Does anyone have any idea of a solution for me.  I've heard a diaphragm (as opposed to a float) carburetor would take care of the problem.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Alternatives?  What should I purchase?  What modifications does it take to do the conversion?  Where is the best place to purchase?

As far as I know the problem with Weber carbs is flooding rather than fuel starvation.

I believe the carb setup you are looking for is known as the "MY-SIDE" - developed by Zuks Off Road - although this is not a diaphragm carb (it does have a float), it apparently does not have problems on inclines as the webers do.

The My-side is a CV carb which does have a diaphragm but its not a fixed choke carb like a Weber. The Weber requires a low fuel pressure so you may need a regulator, there is also a mod to stop the float chamber emptying into the choke when on an incline.

More information please. Rhinoman mentioned a mod for weber float chamber. I'm interested. Please elaborate.

 A Toyota 2tc carb is a proven swap as well.

x2 with Boxcar.

Have had one on the DD for 6 years with no issues. Best of all there is no rejetting and works out of the box as long as you (don't buy from ebay).

Here is alot of info, pics and links for the swap. There are a few mods needed to be done, if you follow all the info provided on the thread it will fire rite up. You will be pleased by the performance and decent gas mileage. Besure the valves are adjusted properly.
