Title: 1989 GMC Tracker parts purchase
Post by: TrackerMac on August 28, 2015, 10:12:28 PM: I'm new around here, but this site has been a huge part of my research so thanks to everyone!!

I've been looking around for trackers to turn into an off road rig, and came across one half converted to a buggy. Told it was running and driving, I drove 2.5 hours to go get it for $400. (not bad for a running drive train and frame)

Of course I get there and it is in ROUGH shape. These guys had no clue how to weld, and didn't seem to plan much out. The Frame is mostly good, suspension is alright, but they chopped the steering column and had all the wiring in a pile zip-tied together. Apparently the starter was stolen the night before (I call BS) and the engine is missing a fair bit.

So being stubborn and after spending $100 on gas to get there I left with a $250 hole in my wallet and 2 standard transmissions with T-cases that are "good" (I hope), a straight piped exhaust manifold, 2 rads (no fans), an engine with every hole possible open to the elements, and a rolling chassis.

I still plan on buying an actual trackick to use as street legal, so the parts can't hurt right?

Apparently the engine needs a starter, and to be timed properly to work. What do you guys think, worth putting the work into the motor? It's not seized as I can turn the crank by hand.

Sounds like you have started a BIG Project, with a lot of unknowns. (Model, year, location)
Start a build thread in the Build Diaries, list model, year, any other information you have. (Photo's are useful, and shows your progress)
(Modify your profile and list where you are, it does help to know.)

Post by: TrackerMac on August 29, 2015, 09:35:18 AM: I took a few pics, The more I look, the worse that engine is. I cant find the ground battery cable, bare wires everywhere. Otherwise I would hook up a battery to check if the gauges work.

Post by: kreator on August 29, 2015, 03:28:08 PM: Welcome to the site ,it looks like you have a big job a head of you and you will learn a lot from the guys on here and if you get a daily driver a lot of the questions that you will have you will be able to figure out on your own. But good luck on your project and have some fun doing it .
