Title: 89 samurai engine and install costs?
Post by: jetch114 on October 03, 2015, 12:31:46 AM
Hi- I have a in good shape 89 samurai with the exception of the engine. Local/ credible mechanic shop quoted me a price of $3900.00 for a new engine and install out the door. I'm not a mechanic nor do I have a lot of knowledge with engine rebuild/repair.
My question is, does that price seem within reason for a new stock 1.3 l plus labor? I know it's a bit of a loaded question but am trying to get some input to insure in not being taken advantage of.
Thankyou for your time and input/advice

Considering that a rebuilt Zuke engine will run $1800 and a clutch will run $200
$1900 for a simple swap is HIGH by about twice....

Don't even bother with the 1.3. Just find a 1.6...

Why the 1.6 over the 1.3 besides more power?

FI, and cost factor. After building a 1.3 it is still an nemic and you can put a used 1.6 in for less than that most likely if you are handy...

It could be less money as well to pay someone to drop the 1.6 in and you purchase a harness that will be plug and play...
