I was wondering if anyone out there has info on a Chevy ecotec swap? I want any transmission info also, I want to keep it a 4x4. One engine that has caught my eye recently was the 1.4 ecotec turbo. It makes around 140hp and almost all of it is available at 2000 rpm and higher.
I really want to move on this sometime this winter as my kick has 184000 miles on it and the transmission is now going out. Thanks

sounds like wiring nightmare, I think that you would need the donor car so that you could swapeverything and I don't know if thae tranny would swap

Ecotec 2.4L Beagle is right, wiring has its problems (like all transplants). Fit is tight, oil pan adds to rigidity of block and needs to be modified for front diff. transmissions are available (and may require some creative swapping). Getting donor vehicle will help in long run, you are swapping a transverse mounted motor to conventional mount.
Motor swaps can take time.
The 1.4 turbo is a much newer motor, means more expensive, not as much information available, and harder to find. 1.4L is 140 hp, the aerio 2.0L and 145 hp, almost bolt in. would be a much easier swap.
IF YOU ARE GOING MANUAL TRANSMISSION GET A MOTOR THAT HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. The ecm will not be looking for transmission information. The ecotec ECM can be reprogramed, but still much easier going from manual to manual.
I have lots of information of this, but I may make it sound easier than it actually is. Time and abilities are as important as monetary funds to make happen.
Exhaust has to be converted also.
This took some time to photoshop, but it may be squeeze in somewhere, and there is an TC to go with it.

I have an Ecotec 2.2 and its wiring harness was easy to make it plug and play ,it wold be a lot easyer to install if I was to use toyota trans and transfer case but I am still working on the last part of the adaptor to fit it to a Zuki trans I believe this engine has 175 hp stock

So are you running it independent from Zuki wiring, or have you integrated it into the Zuki wiring?
We will be running a modified Toy R150f w/TC which has 2.25 gears, a little better than 1.75 Zuki gears.
The 2.4L is listed as 177 hp NA.
Have you done anything with the computer?

No i will be running it independent and use vdo gauges and I have a guy that will make me a downloadable program for more hp

Just another idea:
I have swapped the L series motors ( Nissan ) with good results ( simple swap ) The next conversion will utilize a KA24 ( 155 hp ) Efi Nissan 4.

This is a proven and very simple swap. Upgrades to the Nissan power plants are endless.

Thanks guys for the info. I really haven't put my finger on exactly what engine to go with so I appreciate all the input. I really like turbos for the way they can deliver power. That being said I am interested in any of the ecotec swaps, the Nissan swap and the aerio swap. Which one would be the easiest install with the greatest return? What is all involved to make it work of each engine option. I want to keep it a manual if possible. I have worked on old muscle cars and engine swaps but it has been all rwd chevy stuff so this is pretty new to me. Thanks guys

The Nissan is as near a direct swap as you will find. The fit is good , the mounts are simple and the price is probably the lowest by far.
If you're going to run a turbo I'd run the L-20B over the KA as the L motor has 5 huge main bearings and loves boost.

For the L20B it looks like almost all of them have a carb for fuel delivery. Is there a good efi conversion or what is the best way to run a turbo on this engine? Also does the Suzuki transmission bolt up to this?
Reading on the Ka24de looks like it also would be a good option. Wiki says it is known for boost capabilities and it is already efi. Would this bolt up to the Suzuki transmission? Also the wiring harness, how complicated is it?

To inject the L20B you can run the L18 efi intake manifold.
Most run a megasquirt.
Neither the L20B or the KA will bolt to the Suzuki transmission.
You will need either a Datsun drop pan 4 speed ,a dog leg 5 speed or the Borg warner 3 speed automatic. ( Datsun )
All of these transmissions are the correct length for the conversion.
