Title: Help! So many problems so little answers.
Post by: Chadchad09 on October 19, 2015, 12:41:40 PM
I am new here so of this is already a topic that had been over more than once please just send me in the right direction.. thanks..

I bought a samurai and let a friend drive it. It blew up. Had the motor completely rebuilt and put back in.
It ran great for about a half hour and just lost power and died. Won't start again but will backfire. Out of both exhaust and intake...
Has compression and spark air and fule. I think the timing may have just come off but I have no idea and would just like a little guidance before diving into this.

Seems odd that it would run fine for a half hour before breaking down again. It seems like there's an internal issue with the valves. You could find the FSM and check the procedure for timing

My guess is that the timing is off.  Maybe the distributor was loose and moved.

Did you let said friend drive it again?

First I would check the ignition timing as others have stated.  Then I would look at the timing belt.  If it ran fine for 30 min, and it does not run now, it could be that the timing belt slipped a tooth or lost a nib.

Timing was not off from crank to cam but something got into where the distributor gear is and chewed up that gear the timing was off from that( the guts of the distributor looked very old amd cracked and seemed to be rubing on sone of the wring places). Now looking to get a new distributor and drain my oil to check for any bonus metal. And hope that was my only problem

Roadless gear has a lot of OEM Maruti Gypsy parts that interchange with Samurais.  He may have a distributor for your Zuk.  Google Roadless Gear to contact Figmo.

Also, there is a lot of material at Ack's FAQ (see link in signature below) that might help you.  Search for Factory Service Manual as a start.

BTW, lots of great info right here at ZukiWorld can be quickly found through the purpose-built search engine at Ack's FAQ!
