Title: custom snorkel pics
Post by: track_this on March 22, 2004, 04:04:02 PM
well finally finished my snorkel idea havent tested it yet, like water over my hood. but it runs pretty good down the road(ram air effect). i used a ricer heat shield air filter form circuit city made by ractive helps to keep rain off of the filter element. for the pipe i used 3" diameter so it sounds real good. all of the parts i got at lowes or home depot except for the air filter.  here are some pics i shot of it tonight, ill get some better ones tommorrow in the daylight:

Looks pretty cool.

You gotta tell us how it works when you take the truck for a swim.  ;D

that looks good..i dont know if id keep that cover on the filter when its not raining though

make sure u have all the other breather lines on the truck extended before u test out that snorkel =)

how come u didnt just use the stock air box but pipe the snorkle into it?

that looks like 3" pvc or abs, would it be able to fit in the air box? if it did, that would work great, does it fit in the air box  ???

ya its pvc pipe i just painted it black :P. i think that without the stock airbox things were simple and straight forward. i dont think that the angle would have been right with the stock hole, but i know for sure 3" pipe will not fit the stock hole. both diff breather tubes had already been extended before i even thought of putting on the snorkel. here is where the front is:

well i have only driven it around the block, going to take it to work to see how well it goes on the highway. about the diff breathers i might plumb them into the snorkel but for right now im not planning oinn going in water that high, i just want the insurance that my truck will still run if i run into that ;) ill post a better pic today when i get home from work.

Anything is better than the stock location!

Just after I put my snorkel on, I dropped into a creek, and the water went up to the hood.  It was a combination of the water depth, and the angle I was droppin in at, but the stock intake would have been under water!   :o  It paid for itself at that point.

^lol thats why a snorkle will be one of my first mods when i start doing all of this =)

track_this: are u worried at all about the filter being up there...like are u worried itl collect 10x more crap then the filter collected before?
