Title: Getting more MPH out of my samurai
Post by: CodyB on February 17, 2016, 06:14:56 PM
Ive got an 88 samurai and it has 33 in tires on it. running down the road it pushes 50mph and thats about it. what can a guy do to pull a little more speed out of it? 1.6 swap? Different gears in the diffs? Guy i bought it from says the transfer case is geared for rock crawling and for trails but that shouldnt effect the 2wd high side right? not planning on wheeling it as much as it will be on the road. thanks for any imput!

When you put lower t case gears in you do reduce high range gearing to a smaller percent. Example I put 4.16 gears in my t case 85 percent low reduction and 12 percent high range. If you have 1.3 with 33 " tires you will simply run out of power.

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do.  Just drive it slow and don't push the engine too hard.  Remember, it only has 1.3 liters of engine, and it can only do so much.
