Hello friends. On my Jimny JA 11 (660cc turbo) i am running the stock alloy rims, 5" wide, 16" and the overall diameter of the tyres is 28". I want to change the set up as the tyres are too hard and are from a loader vehicle. Today went to the market and selected these rims. I have two options.
1. Either to just change some softer tyres on the existing rims.
2. To fix these 8" X 15" alloys with 235 75 R 15 AT's or MT's tires which will again have a diameter of 28" in total. These rims are very light in weight, original 5 lug, 3" hollow towards inside and 5" hollow towards outside. They will move the tires around 1.5 or 2" outside the body.
So i need suggestions on both especially the 2nd option. Will there be any disadvantage to go wider specially if i also drive on highways on 100 or 110km/ hr speed.
The last pic is of the existing set up.

This has been here a while & no replies. Not sure but my guess is we don't know what you mean by 'hollow rims'. I'm not familiar with that term but if you mean the offset, or backspace those would make sense. By context I am guessing that's what you mean... so:
Wider rims with greater offset can help with overall stability by widening the stance of the vehicle. They can also, as you pointed out, handle wider tires.
Some disadvantages are: greater stress to wheel bearings & other suspension components... to some degree. It can be a bit of a trade off, & for the most part, unless it is extreme it's usually not a major problem. In some cases, maybe yours since your rig has no flares on the wheel wells, it can tend to throw mud & rocks etc at the occupants &/or others behind you. In some places it's not legal to do so, others it doesn't matter & might be just an inconvenience. It can make for a bit of hassle keeping the vehicle clean. Hope that helps, & welcome to the forum. :)

I have similar rims on my tracker, and really like them. Mine have 3 1/2" backspacing, and are close to stock, but wider. Mud doesn't come through the wheel because it is solid, so they seem to stay cleaner.
