Title: High idel

Ok so I'm knew to the 1.3 and its vaccum carb .. I got this 86 (my first) samurai .. It never seemed to rev right and not when it had a timing belt done last I put a new one on last week . It either jumped time due to the tensioner spring bouncing on the crank gear or was set out of time two teeth off at some point in its life ... Not now w that the crank and cam gear are set correctly it is ideling at around 100k .. With that being said I have backed the idel screw out all the way and back in some . No change till I push on the throttle arm . I have not messed with ignition timing at all yet . Any ideas ?

I did find and replace the few cracked vaccum lines that I have found at this point . The stock air box was replaced . I did fix the junk that was there with a factory carb hat to box rubber then made my own temporary set up that is tight and free from leaks .

No change till I push on the throttle arm.

If you can get the idle speed to go down by pushing on the throttle arm, that would suggest that something is holding the throttle plate open - have you checked the cable - does it have any free play in it?

cable is free and has play in it .

I think you having the classic problem of adjusting the high idle screw instead of the actual idle screw.  The hi idle is ease to see and is located in a location that is tempting.  The actual idle screw is tucked in at the base. I suggest searching this forum for hi idle or go to our research library off of the home page and download the factory service manual.

Well after a few short hours of diag and checking vacuum lines I put a timing light on it and the ignition timing was set well over 20dec . So I set it at the 12 the factory calls for and my idel is now between the 750-850rpm range
