Title: Idle air control valve
Post by: AHall on April 30, 2016, 02:30:44 PM
Could idle air control valve cause 1991 sidekick to start then instantly die? Can keep running if I stay on gas. What are yalls thoughts? Could this be why it won't stay running unless on gas?   And can these get dirty or clogged from going through a mud hole? Ran and idled fine til hit some muddy dirty water hole. Thanks

Sudden cooling cracked your catalytic converter,  and is blocked enough the car can't idle, but pushes through with idle?  Can you pull the down pipe off the cat to check?

Also check for water in the distributor

It's possible. Previous owner had actually cut exhaust right behind cat. Will look tomorrow. Distributor was dry. Changed plugs and wires as well.
