Title: v6 swap for 02' vitara JX?
Post by: Otis on May 15, 2016, 11:16:07 AM
Anyone ever put a 2.5 / 2.7 v6 into a 2 door vitara?  Seems like it should be relatively easy, but not seeing a thing on it.  So, is it more trouble than its worth??

Check in the "build diaries, how to section".  Beagle-t is in the process of pulling his 2 liter and installing a V-6.

Board hntr slipped a 2.7liter into his first gen 2 door truck as well (plus a ton of other mods).

Well ya I'm putting a 2.7 auto into my 2Dr tracker. Well if you know wiring. And have the donor it is fairly simple so far.. Motor tranny an Tc are still on the ground wiring is very slow, mind you that I'm swapping everything to make this as easy as possible. I swap harness from front to back swap dash  steering column and installing the AC from the XL-7 there is still a crap load to do but... You ask is it worth it depends on your mechanical skills if you have time, space and patience and money of course. It all should fit in with what I have measured, the extra HP will make up for the time I spent on this build. If there are question just ask

I'd say it's more about your electrical/wiring skills.

Swapping the 2.5 from a 99~02 GV will be the easiest, because it has the least electronics - 03 & later have the BCM, as does the XL-7.

Could one simply run the 2.5 intake, injectors, electronics etc on the 2.7 or is the intake section on the heads different between the two engines?    From Wikipedia it states that the 2.7 is simply a bored-out (88mm) version of the 2.5 (84 mm).

If I recall correctly, the 2.7 had a two stage intake system, that was better for generating torque and high end over the 2.5 liter.  Therefore, a 2.5 intake on a 2.7 would have lower output numbers.

So far the wiring hasn't been that bad  as forded said... But I am using a 2001 so I can't say about 03and up. My problem that I'm going to have is the Abs I'm not swapping that over so I will have the abs light on the dash I hope

If you're going big, go big.  A 3800 or an ls1
