Title: Car won't start
Post by: PG Bob on June 11, 2016, 03:34:55 PM
While driving the engine just quit.  All the indicator dash lights came on.  The engine cranks, I can smell gas, but no start.

Sorry.  It's a 2000 tracker 4 door hardtop.  I couldn't find an engine size on it but according to google the hardtop only came in a 2.0 liter engine.

Is the check engine light coming on when the ignition is switched on?
Do you have access to a code reader?
Have you checked to see what, if any codes are set?

The traditional troubleshooting methods are still applicable - do you have air, fuel & fire - and no, being able to smell gas does not count, that gas may not be where it needs to be - in the cylinder.

The 2.0 engines have been known to have cam position sensor issues - BUT - the sensors are more likely to fail when hot and work again after they cool down, rather than a sudden outright failure.

I'm not certain if you can see the cam through the oil filler - take a peep, and if you can, have someone crank the engine whilst you observe - does the cam turn?

I am know wizz when it comes to anything but a toyota. Take a look at your fuze box under the hood. If it is fuel injected check to make sure that the efi fuze is not blown.
