Alright guys I have finally got my transmission back in my 1987 suzuki samurai 5 speed. I have my sammy on a spoa lift sitting on 33in bfg mudders. I have not got a chance to upgrade the shocks. I am going to relocate the top of the shock in order to get more travel. Will end up bolting it to the fender. What I am needing to know is what size of shock do I need to get in order to get the most travel. OR is there a way to messure what size of shock I need.

Before you start any fab work you need to know how far it drops out and how far it compresses, you need either a fork lift or a cherry picker to pick up the front wheel.

One method is to switch the lower shock mount to the bottom of the axle. That way you don't need to replace your upper mount and you get around 4" more travel. I kept the shock mount on top of the axle to keep it away from rocks.
When switching to longer shocks I went with the F-250 shock tower mount and switched to rear shocks from a 92 F-250 pickup. Did similar to what kreator suggests of flexing it out to see what sort of travel was needed then cut the shock tower to match.
