Title: 31 or 30
Post by: 94track on March 19, 2004, 11:14:11 AM
alright here is the low down.  I have a 94 tracker with a 3" body lift.  I decided on the sky mfg. 1.5" coil spring spacers.  Can't have the little truck on 215's anymore.  I want to run the super swamper tsl, but i am not sure on the 31x9.5 or 30x10.5  . I know fender trimming will be will be in my future, but will i even get those 31's to fit without any rubbing or should i run the 30's. Also any info on what backspacing i should run on new rims(just el cheapo black steel--and who has good deals on them)would be great.   Thanks

A suspention lift will push your tires down for more clearance.  A body lift will give you clearance for bigger tires.

So you should be able to fit 31's with no problem.

(the suspention will give you a little extra clearance because the lower control arm is longer, but I don't think it will matter much)

TSL's run a little bigger in size!   my 31x10.50  run about 32'' and they look bigger than that  ;D

I'm running a set of 30s for street use, with
the 5.83 gears they are way too small, I'm
reving about 4300 at 65 MPH, cool to get
2nd gear scratch at full throttle tho, O ya
It's an Auto Trans too.

Its not so much the height thats the problem so much as the width (yeah I know they're round so that doesn't make much sense, wait till you try them). With 31s you may need to do a little fender trimming, some people have managed to get by by just dressing the seam back. If they're nearer 32" you will almost certainly need to do a little cutting. To get 33s on mine I had to cut into the corner of the footwells around an inch, push them back and reweld. To avoid cutting I would have needed around an 8" bodylift. The offset makes a huge difference 33x9.5s fit OK on mine now but I tried the 33x12.5s that are on my 410 and they would have needed loads more cutting.
