Title: Any birfield rings in use with >33" tire?
Post by: 87BlackSami on March 08, 2004, 01:04:45 PM
I would like to here true testimony to anyone running a 34" and up tire on sami axles with birfield rings. Let us know if you had failure, who's ring you used, if your locked up front, and any other detail you want to add.
I'd like to establish a good idea what these rings can handle before I go through with it or go to yota axles.

On my Sami, I was running 35's and spydertrax rings locked front and did not break, prior to the rings I was running 33's and open and popped more than a couple birfs, given that I am more of a technical driver than  nail the gas.

Hope it helps

Mac

Cool. Thanks for the response. I have the same driving characteristics so this is what I wanted to hear. I just hope more people can back this.

Can anyone else relate?

I can't give you a testimonial, but I posted this topic a couple of weeks ago for my Sami with 35s. The last post is on March 3rd under "birfield rings." ;) I hope it will help.
P.S. Could you tell me how to post pictures on the BBS. I can't figure it out :-[

The birfield rings will stop you from breaking birfields as quickly, but just moves the weak point to places less of ease to change on the go/trail.

Talked to the folks at Hawk Suzuki and they sell a replacement 26 spline inboard axle for $119. a piece. All you need to do is get a pair of rear sami side gears for the install. After my first break I'll be calling them for a set.
