Prices and brands all over the place, but I need to know from you all which is the best brand to buy and what I should expect to pay.

What I see is a SZ04 distributor Spectra Premium brand for $ 157.98 . I have also seen a SZ04 and SZ08. I am now confused. I have a '97 16 Valve motor. Which on do I get ?

I'd be more suspicious of the wires than the CPS itself.
Have you had any 'no crank' situations/problems recently. I just had my starter go bad, & after one of the no cranks it threw a P0340. After checking fuses, wires, & relay, I used the oldschool 'bang the starter with a hammer!' method & it started right up! :p I cleared the code & since then had the starter replaced & the code hasn't returned.
I'd check the wires to the dizzy & test them for continuity before replacing the dizzy itself.

If the ECU doesn't see an input from the CPS when the starter has been engaged for a period of time it can throw a CPS error, if the engine isn't actually turning then a false code is possible.
