Title: I know we've discussed this before but...
Post by: real_red_wagon on May 18, 2005, 03:14:11 AM
what do you need and how do you put trackick 3rd members in a sammi

the Real Red Wagon is under the knife right now so I need a rig for gonzukin, I know I'll bring my daily driver '87 TinTop ::) I'll do a quick SPOA and run my 31/10.50 MTR's no big deal but I want to put my old 4.30's from the Real Red Wagon in it in place of the 3.73's and weld the rear. so whats the best/easiest/cheapest way to do it(keep in mind when I get back home it all goes to stock no spoa, no tyres, no gears, stock daily driver ;))

I duno take the front and rear end out of the redwagon, and put it in the tintop?
then swap them back when you get home?

the third members from a kick don't just bolt on a sammi they need to be modifyied but I'm not sure how I've many different takes on this

From what I recall ...

The trac/kick *front* *gears* can be used in samurai housings. (not the trac/kick third member, just the front R/P). (I believe this applies to both sami front and rear). So you need 2 front track/kick R/P sets, and install them into the sami carriers.

The trac/kick rear third and axel housing can be used to make a hybrid rear end. Essentially you're welding the sami axel tubes to a kick/trac diff housing and using the kick/trac rear third (which is drilled to bolt to the sami driveline).

TrailTough has a "package" that looks hard to beat. You get a sami front end setup with trac/kick R/P and the hybrid rear (and third) setup too. Considering the work to make the hybrid rear, the sourcing of the misc parts, the "setup"of the gears ... TT looks cheap.

Actually I believe that the sammy and earlier kick fronts are 100% interchangable on the housings AND axles.  No need to swap gears.

The rears are another story.
