Title: bad news
Post by: brace on March 16, 2004, 01:50:59 AM
Heading home Friday from work, the mighty SJ didn't want to utilize its 4th gear.  A compression check on the 3rd cylinder confirmed the worst of fears: the heli-coil sparkplug hole fix ruined the valve and the valve seat.  :'(  Also, there will be no getting back the core charge.   $400 not to mention time to put it all back together and they can't ship till next weeeeek, double bummer!  For the final insult, it's going to snow this week and I have to nav in my wife's gmc safari.

If there is a next time, use a timesert. they have a web site, I have used them for over twenty five years and never had one fail, and I use grease on the tap to catch the chips from the old threads.  www.timesert.com
