I'm replacing the 1.8 with 204K in my new to me 97 Sport with a 2.3 with 73K on it.
What would my running 1.8, minus the parts I transfer over to the 2.3 be worth these days.
I haven't run a compression test on it and it has a leaky valve cover gasket.
I'm feeling generous over it but I just shouldn't give it away.
I'm in Virginia. USA

Tough question...
1.8 long blocks are relatively rare, which pushes the price up, but, they are also not in high demand, which pulls the price down.
Realistically speaking though - I doubt, even giving it away, you could find any takers - anyone with a Sidekick Sport needing an engine will either be scrapping the vehicle, or a Suzuki enthusiast looking to do a 2.0 or 2.3 swap just as you are.
Put it up on Craig's list, what have you got to lose - you might find the one Suzuki enthusiast who wants a "period correct" classic ...

That makes sense, I just want to not have to just scrap it. I'd like to see it, or parts of it used if possible. That's what counts to me
Anything has value to the right person, finding that person may in fact be more trouble than it's worth.
Maybe pull the head and stick it up on E-Bay if there is a need for a replacement to a cracked head. It can sit up there for months till someone needs a repair.
The block may also be of core value as well but I'm getting rid of it because I want the 2.3. I could probably get another 100,000 of the motor as is, or it could go tomorrow.
I just hate to see it go for a 'by the pound..' price.

200k sounds like the parts were used well enough.

I know of several Suzuki engines properly maintained that are still running with over 300,000 miles.
The folks who owned this vehicle before me did little to maintain it, They kept a quart in the engine bay rather than replace the valve cover gasket.
At least they ran 10w30 in it.
I'll find something meaningful to do with it.

thebanjoman, your posts reads as though you were annoyed with the replies. I hope that wasn't so. I think everyone was giving you their honest experiences and thoughts. Good luck with what ever you decide to do with it.
