Title: Tires one last time
Post by: wuggie on March 02, 2004, 03:31:29 AM
What is the largest tire that will fit a "03 Tracker?
I have the opportunity to pick up 4 BFG AT tires, size 235/75-15 at a very reasonable price but if they won't fit then they won't be a bargain.
I have an auto tranny, will that be affected negatively?
Thanks

Does your 03 have the steel wheels or the alloys.  I know the steel's are only 5.5 inches wide.  For them the largest size suggested is 215/75/15.  I know that the ZR2's come with alloys and only 215s.  Several people here have said that they have put 235 on the 5.5 rims, but I don't know that it is recommended.  BFG AT's come in 215 size.  If I had a newer Tracker that is what I would put on it.

I had a set of 235's on the stock 5.5" rims.  No problems at all.  So that's not a problem.

At the time I had a 3" suspention lift so I had no clearance problems.

"But" according to others on this sight they should work just fine.  I'm sure others will post this also.

I've posted this at least 3 times,
I've put 31x10.5-15s on stock rims,
235 is still a smallish tire, and works
fine with stock gears and no lift

I ran Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's in 31X10.50 on stock gears, until recently.  On steeper mountain roads, like this, you can kiss FOURTH goodbye.  On flat terrain, though, it still worked OK in 5th.  I do have the Calmini header, and the K&N filter, on my 16-valve.

When I put the Anvil, with the ARB Air Lockers, I also went to the 5.83 R&P's - this put the speedometer and odometer back within 1/2 MPH at 65 MPH (which is more accurate than my 4-door Kick with stock-height tires).

The 5.83's helped, but she's still pretty gutless.  I'll be trailering her to Moab next month (the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 is a heck of a pull).

I'm running 31's with stock gears(513's) with an auto trans/overdrive still seems to be ok.

i have the 16 valve and i run 31" tires and i have still run in the fastlane on the freeway!  all gears stock, it works good for me, and 4low i only use 1-2 gear most of the time. i rarely use 3rd gear in 4low. hope that helps.    shane
