Title: Smoke Out suggestions - 1987 suzuki samurai
Post by: Zkuki on April 01, 2018, 02:03:33 PM
When I initially start up the samurai it smokes out the place until the rpms start to drop.

Would it help if I got a new muffler? Or what is this usually caused from? It's a 1987 Suzuki Samurai, I know it's not gonna be the an extremely clean runner or win any eco friendly rewards but I'd like to try and fix this smog issue.

No - a new muffler is unlikely to help with the smoke - it sounds like the engine is burning oil, either because of leaking valve seal or possibly worn rings - find yourself a good mechanic and have him evaluate the condition of the engine - wet & dry compression tests are where I would start.

Probably old and hardened valve seals. They leak oil as it sits and it takes a minute to burn out upon starting.
